Neurological Rehabilitation
About Neurological Rehabilitation
In the case of serious, life altering injuries such as a spinal injury or brain damage, there is an immense impact on the daily life of the patient as he or she struggles with even the most mundane day-to-day activities.
At pt Health, we work to limit this loss of ability so that our patients can regain some sense of normalcy and achieve the maximum level of functionality.
Neurological rehabilitation helps patients recover from a nervous system injury while reducing or adjusting for any residual nervous system dysfunction.
What Is Neurological Rehabilitation?
In order to cope with a condition that affects both the individual and the individual’s family, neurological rehabilitation helps to create a new way of living so that an affected individual is able to live and work as normally as possible.
Neurological conditions can cause debilitating weakness, poor balance and reduced mobility that can interfere with daily activities.
In addition, the reduced mobility and decreased physical function caused by some neurological conditions can also lead to impaired heart and lung function, fatigue, falls and – in some cases – social isolation.
A physiotherapy treatment plan will use specific therapeutic exercises designed to improve:
- Balance
- Coordination
- Strength
- Flexibility
- Cardiovascular function
- Overall mood
There are specific exercises designed to activate the muscles affected by the nerves.
The goal of neuro rehabilitation is to make the nerves relearn and maximize their functionality.
