Paul Makinen
PedorthistSpeaks: EnglishPaul is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist who has been working in the field for the past 20 years. He currently works in most of the clinics in the Atlantic Region and assesses patients for custom foot orthotics and advises on footwear recommendations as well as custom and off the shelf bracing solutions.
After graduating from Acadia University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Physical Education, Paul went on to obtain a Diploma in Massage Therapy from ICT Northumberland College in 2000. The knowledge gained in these two programs gave him a great base of knowledge to begin training as a Certified Pedorthist. After a two-year apprenticeship, Paul completed his training as a Certified Pedorthist and has been treating patients in Nova Scotia ever since.
Paul is a member of the Pedorthic Association of Canada and the College of Pedorthics of Canada. His expertise in foot and lower extremity conditions has allowed him the opportunity to speak at many local events on the benefits of orthotics and educate people on proper footwear selection. Paul has a keen interest in technology and how it can be utilized in medical professions for improved outcomes, more efficient methods of treating, and educating patients.
Jason Hart
Massage TherapistSpeaks: EnglishJason is a registered massage therapist who graduated from Northumberland College of Massage Therapy in July 1999. Prior to this, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Archeology in 1996.
Mr. Hart has worked at this clinic location for over 24 years and has helped thousands of people with their physical health.
On a personal level, Jason was a volunteer firefighter in his community for 16 years and enjoys staying physically active through hiking, biking, ball hockey and gym time.
Sara Sullivan
Occupational TherapistSpeaks: EnglishSara graduated from Dalhousie University with a Masters in Occupational Therapy. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Certificate in Disability Management. Sara is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists and Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.
She has continued her education by completing the Workwell Functional Capacity Evaluation certification, workshops in motivational interviewing, chronic pain management, trauma-sensitive practice and acceptance and commitment therapy.
Outside of work, Sara enjoys playing ringette, yoga, golf and walking with her Nova Scotia duck Toller.
Colby McLenaghan
Massage TherapistSpeaks: English, FrenchColby grew up in the city of Moncton, NB where he graduated from Eastern College in 2023 with an honors diploma in Massage Therapy.
He also completed a year of Kinesiology at Dalhousie University before shifting into Massage Therapy.
While being new to the healthcare world, Colby has many skills in massage therapy including Deep tissue massage, Sports Massage, Basic TMJ massage and is excited to start learning new modalities to further benefit his clients Colby takes pride in making his clients feel comfortable in his care and providing the best possible treatment plan for whatever injuries are present.
In his free time, Colby enjoys watching and playing various sports as well as being a volunteer coach for various youth sport programs
Karen Smith
PsychologistSpeaks: EnglishKaren has been a practicing clinical and forensic psychologist for over 20 years. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology and Criminology) and then completed post-graduate work at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Karen has worked in many different areas including Forensics and Mental Health and Addictions. She has spent 10 years in her current role working with a diverse population. She also works extensively with the Veteran population, as well as, injured workers, clients who have mental health and addiction issues, pain management difficulties, trauma and those diagnosed with personality disorders. Her preferred treatment modality is Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, which affords clients the opportunity to gain coping skills that aid in being able to manage life in a healthy manner. She also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Mindfulness. Karen has gained extensive knowledge working as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
Outside of the workplace, Karen enjoys self-care, reading, movie and trivia nights, going to the gym and frequent travel.
Sarah Dumont
Massage TherapistSpeaks: EnglishSarah graduated in 2015 from the 2200hr Massage Therapy Diploma program at Eastern College in Saint John, NB and then began her career in Massage Therapy in Calgary, AB in a multidisciplinary clinic and worked part time at a private Massage Therapy college as a first and second year instructor. Sarah established her own Massage therapy and Fitness practice in Calgary and is now starting her new journey here in Nova Scotia! Sarah is registered with the Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia.
Sarah has been working in the fitness and therapeutic health industry for 26 years as a Registered Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer, and Group Fitness Instructor.
Sarah specializes in therapeutic massage, sports massage, orthopedic treatments, older adult and pediatric populations, pre/post-operative, pre/post-natal massage, myofascial cupping, lymphatic drainage, remedial exercise, and orthopedic assessment.
Sarah can help you with common conditions such as Fibromyalgia, migraines, TMJ Dysfunction (jaw pain), Frozen shoulder, carpel tunnel syndrome, golfer/tennis elbow, arthritis, foot conditions, hip and knee pain, sciatic nerve pain, degenerative disc disease, and many more.
She is a certified Oncology Massage Therapist and specializes in massage treatment during all stages of cancer.
Sarah will assess and provide a solutions-focused treatment and remedial exercise plan to help you feel better, move better, and improve your overall well-being.
Andrea Lafleur
Massage TherapistSpeaks: EnglishAndrea is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from ICT Northumberland College in 2014. She also holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from Acadia University where she graduated in 2012.
Over the years Andrea has continued furthering her education with courses pertaining to chronic pain, cupping and she hopes to continue expanding her knowledge of pre/post-natal care.
Her therapeutic massage therapy acquired skills in general Swedish massage, myofascial release, cupping and much more assist in helping her to make a difference in her clients' overall wellbeing as part of this interdisciplinary team.
In her spare time, Andrea enjoys crafting and spending time with her family and friends.
Natasha Trudel
PhysiotherapistSpeaks: English, FrenchNatasha Trudel is a Dalhousie physiotherapy graduate from 2005. Prior to pursuing a career in Physiotherapy, Natasha obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, also from Dalhousie University. Since graduation, Natasha has been working in private practice and most recently enjoys practicing in her home community.
Natasha brings a multifaceted approach to treatment. She has a history of working with people with complex musculoskeletal conditions, Veterans and client’s post surgery. With over 18 years of experience, she works to optimize your health by utilizing self management strategies, education, manual therapy and injury-specific exercise prescription. Natasha is passionate about helping people to reduce pain, recover from their injury and return to the activities they love.
Outside of her clinical practice, Natasha enjoys camping. During the winter, she can easily be found in the rink as a passionate spectator. She also enjoys watching her hometown Halifax Mooseheads pursue Championships!
Zachary Henderson
PhysiotherapistSpeaks: EnglishZach is a Physiotherapy graduate from Dalhousie University in 2014. Prior to this, Zach received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiologisy in 2010 at St. Francis Xavier University. While he has worked primarily in the private healthcare sector, Zach also has experience in the public healthcare system. With over 9 years of clinical experience, Zach comes with exceptional knowledge of injury education and occupational rehabilitation. Zach has volunteered his time with various sporting events within the community of Halifax Regional Municipality. During his free time, Zach can be often found hiking in the woods with his two dogs, Lucy and Lincoln.
Rebecca Shaw
Social WorkerSpeaks: EnglishRebecca began working with pt Health after completing her Master of Social Work degree in 2021 through Waterloo University, with a focus on the connection between physical and mental health. Rebecca previously completed her Bachelor of Arts, then her Bachelor of Social Work through St. Thomas University.
Prior to joining the pt Health team, Rebecca worked with Department of Community Services (Nova Scotia) and completed practicums with Prison Fellowship Canada, SchoolsPlus, and Community Services (PEI). She has also completed training in self-regulation, trauma-informed care, and conflict management. Her focuses for counselling include loss and grief, anxiety, trauma, and change adaptation through a strengths-based and solution focused approach.
Dr. Ben Murray
ChiropractorSpeaks: EnglishDr. Murray holds a Bachelor of Science degree form Dalhousie University. He graduated as a doctor of chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2008. At graduation, he received several awards for recognition of his skills in clinical diagnosis and radiographic examination.
Currently, he is enrolled in a Sport Science Residency Program aimed at specializing in Sports Medicine, Injury Prevention, and Conditioning. Dr. Murray has received training in active release techniques (ART), Graston Technique, Thompson technique, Craniosacral Technique, and Sacrooccipital Technique. He also has training as a Sports First Responder.
Dr. Murray serves as chiropractor during many sporting events including the 2011 Canada Winter Games and the 2009 Canoe Kayak World Championships.
Sonam Gulati
PhysiotherapistSpeaks: English, Hindi, Punjabi, UrduSonam enjoys working with people where treatment plan is based on individualized rehabilitation programs. Sonam is a firm believer that the first step to recovery is communication. Although she has special interest and experience in geriatric physiotherapy, she is passionate about assisting individuals of all ages to achieve their goals. Sonam completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy from Europe and her Master’s degree from India. Sonam has more than 5 years of experience working with Acquired Brain Injured individuals as a Rehab Therapist in Ontario. Sonam believes in hands-on approach and exercise based treatment as main stream rehabilitation protocol.
When not at work Sonam enjoys Yoga and Pilates.
Calvin Mills
PhysiotherapistSpeaks: EnglishCalvin is a passionate and motivated therapist who believes that movement is the key to living a healthy and successful life. Through empowering the patient to understand proper movement, Calvin believes patients can learn the tools to not only treat their injuries, but can decrease the chances of them happening again. Calvin treats any patients who are motivated to rehabilitate their injuries and focuses on teaching the patient to take control of their injury.
Calvin’s interests include prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, hip, knee and ankle biomechanics and using exercise as medicine. Calvin graduated from Dalhousie University with a Master's degree in Science - Physiotherapy and also holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from Acadia University.
Throughout Calvin’s post secondary experience, he has provided athletic trainer coverage for many sporting teams and organizations in Nova Scotia such as: Acadia Men’s Basketball, UKC Women’s Volleyball and Soccer Nova Scotia.
