Welcome to the Team, Keith!
pt Health Corporate Sport in Calgary is pleased to announce the newest addition to our clinic team, Keith Wilson!
Keith comes with an impressive background in physiotherapy, and – lucky for us! – has already had extensive experience working with pt Health, as he was formerly our Clinic Team Manager for our clinics in Amherst, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick.
Keep reading to learn a bit more about our newest team member!
Tell us a bit about yourself, Keith.
Sure! I’m a graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax (so I’m a bit far from home now!) where I earned my Masters of Science in Physiotherapy. I worked in the industry on the east coast for several years before making my way to Corporate Sport in Calgary.
Outside of work, I like to stay active with sports and activities like hockey, squash, softball, mountain biking, running, hiking, and swimming.
What attracted you to the world of physiotherapy & patient care?
With all the sports and activities that I participate in, I have sustained my fair share of injuries.
Some of these injuries in the past introduced me to Physiotherapy. Through my experience with physiotherapy I was able to return to sports and activities but ultimately I recognized a profession that I would love to pursue so that I could help people, like it had helped me.
It is a fantastic feeling to help someone reach their goals whether it be to return to sports, making the demands of their daily living pain free, or just helping reduce the chronic symptoms they’re experiencing.
Can you tell us a bit about how you approach patient care?
I like to take a thorough approach to the initial assessment, then build a personalized, patient-centred rehabilitation program around that.
I believe this is the best way to help my patients reach their treatment goals, while also providing them with the knowledge and understanding that will help prevent an accident or injury from reoccurring.
What are the primary health care services and specific areas of specialization you’ll be providing patients with at Corporate Sport?
My main focus is physiotherapy, but I’ve taken several extra courses since graduation in order to expand my skill set, including:
- National Orthopaedic Manual Manipulative levels 2 and 3
- Kinetacore Functional dry needling
- Traditional Acupuncture through Acupuncture Canada
- Assessment and treatment of Movement System Impairment Syndromes
I also recently completed the Arthritis Society’s Getting a Grip on Arthritis® osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis education program.
I believe this extended education will allow me to provide patients with a range of additional specialty services to address specific pains, injuries and conditions.
What, in particular, excites you about this new role?
Mostly it is to work in a team orientated and patient focused clinic.
Luckily the Corporate Sport clinic has multiple health care professionals from different backgrounds. It is always nice to know that you can provide multiple services with the same goal in mind and that is patient care!
Anything you’d like to add for your new Calgary co-workers & patients?
I am excited to be in Calgary and the vibrant atmosphere that this city has.
It seems to me that the individuals here enjoy being physically active. I enjoy living an active lifestyle and promoting it too and this seems to be the perfect place for that. I hope that I can help as many clients as possible reach their goals!
P.S. I am an Oilers fan so please take it easy on me!
