As we continue through the month of February we will be featuring a different pt Health psychologist as we honor Psychology Month. This week we chatted with Vanessa McColl a psychologist who works at pt Health and Wellness Centre Gladstone Halifax.
Vanessa has been part of the pt Health team for over 7 years in the Halifax Regional Municipality. She completed her B.A. (Honours) in Psychology, with Distinction, at the University of Windsor in Ontario and her M.Sc. degree in Clinical Psychology at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. She was awarded a scholarship from the CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) for her graduate thesis work in which she studied the relationship between types of motivation, self-reinforcement, and psychological well-being.
At pt Health, Vanessa really enjoys being part of a multidisciplinary team to help meet the needs of clients as they complete their rehabilitation programs at our clinics. She specializes in treating clients who have been injured, have chronic pain, or have other significant health problems. She has also expanded her knowledge base to include training in trauma-based therapy such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. Trauma therapy is particularly helpful for clients who are not only working through the physical effects of an injury or accident but the emotional or post-traumatic effects as well, such as driving anxiety following a motor vehicle collision. In addition to these specialties, Vanessa provides psychotherapy for adults for a wide variety of other issues, like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, assertiveness, personal growth, etc.
Interested in joining our team as a psychologist? We currently have two vacancies in Nova Scotia:
